If old school UO is your thing, then this may be the server for you. UO Renaissance stays more true to the UOR era than any other server. I believe they have the highest populations as far as free servers. UO Renaissance and UO Forever both are good UOR style servers. I can't speak much on it as I don't really know anything about it. Not saying this is a bad thing, I just don't prefer it. I have played UO for over 20 years, but honestly have no clue what anything is on production servers - the game has changed so much. Aside from that, the ruleset there is trash and gives this weird Early Access feel for anything that isn't "all kill"-leftclick or 2-1-closest target lol.ĭunno what you're looking for in a shard, but UO Outlands has a lot of hype and anticipation right now for a lot of very good reasons.ĮA/OSI UO is a completely different game than the other two you listed. There isn't enough space here to explain the depth, or the give-a-shitter on my behalf, to go into it, but you'll get enough people to badmouth it on Reddit to give you an idea. UOF has changed dramatically over the years, all for the worse. Those servers get a lot right when it comes to the mechanics of their respective eras, but drop the ball when it comes to third party programs like Razor, Steam and Sallos the servers have the ruleset (for the most part), but not the feeling. Much like playing UO SecondAge, I was there when those expansions were released almost 20 years ago, and they were "good" because we didn't know better lol. I can't speak much for UO Renaissance the server as I didn't find it to my liking. In short it's terrible, and does neither classic sandbox MMO or traditional theme park MMO well. UO today is some weird spawn of the old sandbox engine meshed with unbridled item based grinding a la Diablo with a snack of half assed WoWism. Ultimately it will waste your time as much as if you had played on a shard that shut down. Shane doesn't understand how this is a problem.ĭespite how much I love UOF's content, I would not recommend it to anyone. It's like paying for a BMW and then the dealership gives you a Civic. And after you've invested all that and they've raked in a bunch of money, they'll nerf it. We're talking 15-150 million here, and a year or more in leveling. It's also really expensive both in terms of time and money. UOF's "meta" content (pets and talismans) is really fun. Players on the whole are happier at UOR and the community is friendlier and less toxic. Communication between staff and players is more respectful. No spur of the moment, poorly thought out mechanics changes that piss off half the shard. No arbitrary, excessive and inconsistent punishments and bannings. Events have more thought put into them and better rewards. Yet UOR is run much more smoothly and professionally. UOF is operated as a for-profit business with a staff. UOR is basically run by one guy as a hobby. Home hot new topīetween UOF and UOR there's a big difference in how the shards are run.
